The cat is yelling. Hours later, profanities have been added into the yelling. “LET ME OUTTA HERE!” it screams.

Cole walks in and grabs the tranq gun by the door and holds it close to him "no, no I don't think I will."

"Wait wait wait- we can talk about this, please" the cat pleads.

"I don't think you understand. I need you." Cole snaps a rolling white board in front of him as he rests the tranq gun on a table near him.

"Why are you outside and allowed to walk around and I dont get to?"

"Because out there is dangerous. People will question you and tear you apart." Cole grabs a marker and starts writing on the board.

"There's more people out there? Why would they tear me apart? Can that even happen to me?"

"People that don't look like you, and tear you apart in the metaphorical sense question after question after question for hours." Cole continues writing as he sighs.

"What are you doing?" They lean in some trying to see what he's doing

"Things." Cole seems to be writing calculations for probability.

They look horribly confused "What kind of things?"

"Math things" Cole continues writing as he groans.

"What's math things?"

"Things you wouldn't understand quite yet"

"You could explain it"

"Mmm don't feel like it" Cole stops writing and folds his arms as he stares at the board

"What are you doing now?"

"Thinking" Cole sighs and starts writing again

"Thinking about what? What is that?" it points at the white board

"Thinking about something you wouldn't understand, and it's a board that you can write on" Cole erases what's on the board and starts writing again.

"Why did you get rid of all that you just did?"

"It was wrong" Cole continues writing

"Can I leave yet?"

"No, I need you to stay here" Cole sighs as he hides behind the white board. He starts to tear up.

"Where are you going?"

Cole sniffles, he stops writing "just give me a second." He sounds like he's on the verge of tears

"Are you crying? Why are you crying?"

Cole starts crying as he sits on the floor, this is the cat’s fault why would you ask someone if they are gonna cry?

"Are you ok? Did you get hurt? Why aren't you answering?"

Cole quietly mutters as he continues crying "please....please shut up"

"Why? I can't do anything else and I want to know what's going on"

"Just be quiet for one....one minute" Cole sniffles as he continues crying

"How long is that? Why do I need to be quiet?"

"Just be quiet and I'll tell you in a second" Cole's crying slows as he starts to stand back up

"Can you answer my questions first?"

"A minute is 60 seconds, and I need you to be quiet so I can gather myself" Cole starts writing again as his breathing starts to pick up

"Gather yourself? What do you mean by that?"

"Like stop crying" Cole's voice is starting to fill with frustration

"You're all in one piece, just say so I can stop crying if that's what you meant."

Cole goes silent and continues writing

"What happens when I do this?"

"What, what the fuck could you possibly be doing?" Cole peeks around the board and stares at it

Its just standing there but with squinting eyes as it thinks

"Stop doing that." Cole commands.

"Stop what? Thinking?"

"Yeah" Cole returns to writing as he mutters "almost done..."

"I can't just stop thinking"

"Just stop doing it, it's really easy for me." That is a lie. Cole is constantly thinking.

"How???" it is thinking really hard on how to stop thinking

Cole just goes quiet while staring at the white board

"How do I do that? I dont know how to do that"

Cole picks up the tranq gun and aims it at the creature "I am going to name you talkbox if you don't shut up!"

It cowers and puts its hands up "Hey hey hey, calm down will you? I'm confused about all of this"

"Look, I'm fuckin insane. The evidence is all around you," Cole pushes the whiteboard away. "I need you for one purpose, do you know what that is?"

"No?"

"I need your blood to save my daughter from someone called Nyx."

"What's blood?"

Cole flicks his wrist at the blood bag on the table as he puts the tranq gun on the floor "this is blood" Cole points to the bag "it's inside of you and I fuckin need it."

"Do you have blood in you too?"

"Yeah, I do, but your blood is special."

"Why is my blood special and yours isn’t?"

"it just is. I don't know why or how....well I kinda know how but you wouldn't understand it," Cole puts the blood bag back on the table. "It's complicated."

"You keep saying I wont understand it. Why wouldnt I but you can?"

"Cause I'm fuckin insane and went through the pain and suffering to learn how everything in the world works. Everything that does something does it for a reason." Cole starts to pace the room.

"Ok, tell me why my blood is different then"

"Your hematopoietic cells, the specific stem cells that make your blood how it is, are different than human hematopoietic cells that create normal red blood." Cole starts to pace faster. "Your blood can cause people to get high, versus mine that can't. Granted it's not a good high, but it could have its uses."

"So you're short and trying to make up for it?"

"No, there's someone that wants my daughter’s blood, her blood is exactly like yours." He starts to speak faster.
"And if I can supply that someone with your blood, they will leave my daughter alone."

"You're talking a lot faster, also what’s a daughter? Can I meet them?"

"No you can't meet them. The point of you is to be a secret because well I lied about you to them." Cole seems to get an idea and spins the white board around and starts writing frantically as he mutters, "laser rifle...."

"Whats a laser rifle?"

"A rifle that fires a high powered beam of light. If I can figure out how to make a laser strong enough, then anyone, including people with armor, won't be able to withstand it." Cole continues to frantically write.

"Can I leave yet?"

"no, again the people around me don't know about you and would be very upset at me for having you considering I lied about your existence" Cole stops frantically writing as he stares at the white board with a smile.

"Why did you lie to begin with?"

"Well for the most part, I'm insane and they would never trust me with a life that needs to learn." Cole rolls the white board over to a wall as he starts to pace in the middle of the room again. "And the other part is that this isn't exactly ethical, but it's a evil that needs to exist."

"Can I leave now?"

"No, now I need to take some blood so...yeah." Cole grabs the IV needle and changes it out as he starts walking towards the cage with needle in hand.

It backs up as much as it can "Hey wait a minute, that thing hurts."

"You know what else hurts?" Cole's head tilts as he stops, "getting clawed in the chest so think of this as something that isn't as bad, as something that I could be doing."

"I was scared and confused thank you very much."

"....." Cole stares as he tries to tell if they are being sarcastic. They are being serious, however.

Cole starts trying to stick them with the needle again. They pull their arm away "There’s got to be a better way where I don’t have to be here."

Cole pretends to think for a second, "nah, this is honestly the best place for you." Then he tries to grab their arm. Their arm is grabbed and they try to pull their arm free.

Cole holds their arm tightly and sticks their arm with the needle as he flicks his wrist and some duct tape flies into his free hand and tapes the needle to it's arm

It looks anoyed and starts trying to pick at the tape

"See? It's not too bad compared to what I could be doing." Cole flicks it's hand as he attaches a blood bag to the tube system.

"Ow, why did you flick me"

Cole shrugs as he starts to pace again “Cause you were picking at the tape. Also, duct tape hurts far worse than that needle to take off, so I wouldn't try."

They sit down as they start getting tired "how is it stay on so well?"

"Adhesive. It likes to stick to things." Cole continues pacing.

"How does it..." they trail off some as they try to stay awake

"I would advise that you fall asleep, makes it easier for both of us" Cole slows his pace.

"Hckydk..." they mumble something before dozing off

"There you go" Cole detaches the blood bag and puts it on the table then walks out.
